Dispatch: Upcoming Events
Tomorrow and beyond
We encourage you to check out a whole bunch of events, and attend as you are able. We begin with an Ambulance Tour that starts in Milwaukee tomorrow morning; then Ben Wikler’s book tour; a must-see Civics Reboot video; Thursday’s Defending Our Neighbors webinar; and — last but not least — John Nichols at WFFWi’s July meeting. Please scroll down to see what’s happening. Then enjoy today’s musical offering, Trumpy Doodle.
Healthcare is Critical - Ambulance Tour
Beginning tomorrow, and sponsored by Working Families Party and various local organizations:
Wisconsin families are in crisis and Wisconsin hospitals are at risk of closure. When Tom Tiffany, Rep. Tony Wied , Rep Bryan Steil, and Rep. Derrick Van Orden voted for the “Big Ugly Bill,” they chose tax cuts for corporations and billionaires over health care for working people. The consequences are real: an estimated 276,000 Wisconsinites will lose Medicaid coverage, ACA premiums have surged, and families across the state are being forced to choose between medical care and financial survival.
Join the Ambulance Tour as it rolls into your community. You’ll hear directly from medical professionals and community members about what these cuts mean on the ground — for patients, for families, and for Wisconsin’s health care system.

Ben Wikler’s book is coming out and he’s going on tour!
Ben previewed his new book This is the Plan at a recent WFFWi meeting. He wrote a fabulous Op Ed in the New York Times a week ago. In July, Ben is going on a book tour. Attend an event if you can, to be inspired and cheer on our friend Ben! Details at Ben’s Substack.
Turning to virtual events
“Every Activist Should Watch This Webinar”
Do you want to change something in your community? Earlier this month, the ACLU-WI, the LWV-WI, and the WI Farmers Union co-sponsored an informative and uplifting webinar titled “Civics Reboot”: how ordinary people accomplish extraordinary things by working at the local level.
The event was part civics refresher, part lively conversation, all important, and down-right fun. As one participant commented, “Every activist should watch this webinar.”
Whether you attended or not, here’s a chance to watch the webinar online.
Defending Our Neighbors - 6:30 PM Thursday June 25
This virtual event breaks down 287(g) agreements and other forms of collaboration between local law enforcement and ICE. Learn how Wisconsin agencies are fueling the deportation pipeline for profit and hear actionable strategies you can use right now to protect your immigrant neighbors. A conversation with Tim Muth, Senior Staff Attorney at ACLU of Wisconsin. Moderated by Deborah Patel. Sign up at bit.ly/4oDtgNb.
Last but not least, John Nichols is returning to WFFWi!
We were thrilled when Nichols, the Executive Editor of The Nation, agreed to be our guest at our July 13 monthly meeting.
Before becoming the executive editor of The Nation, Nichols served as the magazine’s national affairs correspondent and Washington correspondent. Nichols has written, cowritten, or edited over a dozen books on topics ranging from histories of American socialism and the Democratic Party to analyses of US and global media systems. His latest, cowritten with Senator Bernie Sanders, is the New York Times bestseller It’s OK to Be Angry About Capitalism.
A meeting held during America’s 250th anniversary month is perfect for John, who just published a great Comment about America’s revolutionary vows. Register for the meeting at https://bit.ly/WFFWiMonthly.
