WFFWi Dispatch: War, What is it good for?
Immediate Rapid Response requested!
We are new to Substack, if our first Dispatch (last week) got lost in your email box, read it HERE. Today, we offer an important Rapid Response relating to the latest MAGA war, a reminder about Monday’s WFFWi meeting, and a musical offering. Read on….
Rapid Response - Senseless War
If you haven’t done it yet, stop everything else and call your reps in Washington. The Senate may vote today on the idiotic war Trump started in the Middle East last Saturday. Use Indivisible or Five Calls to connect. Use their suggested language or create your own. Missed the Senate vote? No worries, you can still leave a message, AND you also have a House member to call.
Here’s the best of what we’ve read/listened to so far:
March 2, The Contrarian. Trump’s War on Iran Is Illegal:
Neither a future threat nor regime change can be legal justification for war without congressional authorization. From a long list of esteemed authors: John Danforth, Norman Eisen, Eugene Fidell, Richard Gephardt, J. Michael Luttig, and Richard W. Painter. WOW. Just WOW.
March 3, American Crisis. Margaret Sullivan reminds us that When the media covers war, every other topic fades. And, she adds, “Trump will do anything to distract from the political damage of the Epstein files.” For a short musical version on the same theme, head to YouTube and watch The Iran-Epstein War of Mass Distraction. Let’s make this new country western parody a hit!
March 3, New York Times (gifted). Try not to miss this episode of the Ezra Klein Show: The Great Lie of War. Klein’s guest is Ben Rhodes, President Obama’s Deputy National Security Advisor. Read, listen, or watch the entire thing if you can. Pay special attention to Rhodes saying:
We are now engaged in yet another senseless war, and so far our government is showing itself hypocritical, corrupt, and inept. The most notable “kill” so far was of children. Reuters reported UN ‘deeply disturbed’ by strike on Iran school that killed 160 children. Amazingly, a day or so later AP reports that Melania Trump presided at a UN Security Council meeting on children in conflict, saying “The U.S. stands with all of the children throughout the world.” Say what?
Can we look worse? Of course we can. Hopefully President Trump caught the late night local news in DC last night, which reported “Americans stranded in Dubai amid US-Iran conflict struggle without government evacuation assistance.” Americans have been given a free phone number to call for assistance, but you get what you pay for:
Wow. Just wow.
If you want to learn more about how to talk about the MAGA regimes latest misdeeds, make sure you tune in to the
